Yeast Breads, Quick Breads and Muffins
Breads are some of the most ancient recipes, a part of humans' diets from before we had writing. Early yeast breads were all made from a starter, way before packaged yeast became available in the 19th century to bakers and then to American home bakers, when Charles Fleischmann immigrated to the US in the late 1800's. From traditional to multigrain to sweet yeast breads, there is nothing like the aroma of bread baking. Bread makes simple meals special and filling.
Quick Breads are made without yeast and are cakes usually baked in loaf pans. The Quick Breads are not as sweet as traditional cakes made with icing, often contain raisins or nuts and vegetables, such as the Carrot Cake or Pumpkin Pecan Loaf listed below.
Made in various sizes and shapes, "breaking bread" together is part of our human community. And thank goodness!
